Status match guide 2026 — Where can your loyalty status take you?

A status match lets you transfer your elite tier from one loyalty program to a competing one — often for free. Most guides only show which programs have open matches. We show you both directions: where you can match TO with your current status, and who can match TO your program. Use the navigator below to jump to your program, or scroll through all active opportunities.

We’re currently verifying offers against official terms. Check back soon — or explore the guide sections below to understand how status matching works.

What is a status match?

A status match is an agreement where one loyalty program recognizes your elite tier in another and grants you an equivalent level. Airlines do it to lure competitors’ frequent flyers. Hotels do it to win over business travellers. Car rental programs use it to grab weekday renters.

There are two common forms. A direct match applies your existing tier immediately, usually for 3–12 months, on the strength of proof alone. A status challenge grants temporary status and asks you to complete a reduced number of flights, nights or rentals to keep it.

Direct matches are almost always free. Challenges sometimes carry a fee in the 50–200 dollar range, often refunded if you meet the requirements. Processing takes anything from a few hours to two weeks, depending on the program.

Most programs limit you to one match per member, or one every few years. Offers also come and go: a program may quietly pause its matching page during a busy season and reopen it later. Always check current terms before you apply.

Direct match vs status challenge

Both paths lead to elite status, but they work differently in practice.

How to apply

  1. Find an offer

Use the overview table or jump to your program section to see matches that accept your current status.

  2. Check eligibility and confidence rating

Verify the source program, tier and any regional restrictions. High-confidence offers are the safest to apply for.

  3. Gather documentation

Usually a screenshot of your account page showing name, tier and member number. Some programs also ask for a recent boarding pass or folio.

  4. Submit through website or email

Most programs use an online form; a few still require an email to their loyalty desk. Follow the exact instructions on the official terms page.

  5. Wait for processing

Response times range from minutes to two weeks. Some programs confirm by email, others update your account silently.

  6. Complete challenge requirements if applicable

If you received a challenge, track the flights, nights or rentals you need and keep proof of every one.
