What is a status match?
A status match is when a loyalty program grants you an equivalent tier based on your existing status in a competing program. For example, if you hold Gold status with one airline, another airline might offer you their Gold tier to win your business.
There are two main types: direct matches (instant, based on proof of status) and status challenges (a trial period where you must meet reduced activity requirements). Direct matches are typically free, while challenges may require a minimum number of flights or stays.
The process usually takes a few days to a few weeks. You apply through the target program's website or by contacting their loyalty department, providing proof of your current status. Read our guide →
Status match vs status challenge
| Match | Challenge | |
|---|---|---|
| Speed | Instant | 60–90 days |
| Cost | Usually free | Sometimes paid |
| Requirement | Proof of status | Fly/stay to earn |
| Risk | Low | Medium |
How we verify offers
Each offer is assigned a confidence level. High means the official program page confirms it. Medium means your category or alliance qualifies but your specific program isn't explicitly listed. Low means it's inferred from general patterns — always verify before applying.
